Highest level European leaders discussed European disability policy today in Brussels, in the Commission's main building. Among the distinguished participants we found Herman Van Rompuy, President of the European Council; José Manuel Barroso, President of the European Commission; Jerzy Buzek, President of the European Parliament; Viviane Reding, European Commissioner for Justice, Fundamental Rights and Citizenship and Ádám Kósa single sign language user MEP. Civil society on the summit has been represented by the European Disability Forum.

112: Clear message for broadening 112 emergency services for disabled users and discretion calls

After months of raising awareness on the need to grant full access to the standardised European emergency number 112, Written Declaration n°35 on 112 for deaf, hard-of-hearing, speech-impaired users and for situations where discretion of the call is needed, with 460 MEP signatures, has been adopted by the European Parliament.

Closer eyes on EU Roma inclusion projects

The EPP Roma Working Group held an open session Thursday afternoon to discuss and evaluate the results of the EU pilot project on Roma inclusion. Lívia Járóka, chairwoman of the Working Group emphasized that assessing the transferability of programmes, strengthening their monitoring and developing an early warning mechanism for failing projects were the necessary prerequisites of upscaling real good practices.

Around half a million people marched through Budapest from Hosok tere to Parliament on Kossuth ter to take a stance for Hungarian independence.
